The 6th Annual CCSA Hunger Walk took place at Mission Bay on Saturday, April 25th. In the early morning 154 walkers took off to complete the out-and-back loop, which started and ended at De Anza Cove. More than 20 of our member churches were represented at the walk, including our newest member church, The Life Church Mission Bay. One CCSA church known for having the most walkers present at the annual event rain or shine, had 34 people walking this year. There were nine pastors present from our member churches. Some walkers brought along their favorite canines. Many walkers were wearing the blue CCSA hunger walk shirts. The ‘blue sea” of walkers confronted a cold, sharp wind for much of the 4.2 mile course. Fortunately the sun broke through the clouds just in time to welcome participants back to the fellowship and refreshments waiting at the finish line.

The Hunger Walk is CCSA’s major fund raising event. With the country’s economy in the doldrums, CCSA worried that this year’s walk would not raise as much money as prior walks. When all the money was counted and deposited in the bank on walk day the funds collected totaled $16,800. However, much to everyone’s surprise, money continued to come into the CCSA office in significant amounts. We are very pleased to report that as of May 22 the walk netted $22,431.00; a sum far greater than anticipated.

CCSA owes the tremendous success of this year’s Hunger Walk to its faithful supporters who once again put forth a tremendous effort to assist CCSA. We are grateful to those that walked along the sidewalks of Mission Bay with pledged donations from their family members and friends as well as those generous supporters who could not walk but made a financial gift in support of our cause. We are truly grateful to each and every one of you who made a donation which led to the overall positive financial outcome and success of this year’s Hunger Walk!

CCSA is also grateful to many people whose efforts made this year’s Hunger Walk happen: Event Coordinator- Judy Edelblute; Event set-up-Bruce and Marlene Miller, and Bruce Howard; Registration- Margaret Spiewak, Erma Padgett, and Dick and Geri Wagner; Aid stations and walker support- John Wheeler, the Reality Changers, Larry Fulton, Kim and Elizabeth Edwards; First Aid- Shirley Coffey RN; Financial accounting- Mary Lytle, Dick Roy and money counters; Refreshments- the Senior Gleaners; Keil’s Market for bottled water; Photography- Eric Lynn; and all others who contributed in other ways. ///////////THANK YOU ONE AND ALL.
